We are so excited that one of our favorite therapy horses at Speech Language Pathology in Motion, Gigi, was a finalist for the AHA Inc, Horse of the Year Award.
Gigi, which is short for Golden Girl, is owned by Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, in Islandia NY. She is an absolute pleasure to work with for speech therapy sessions incorporating hippotherapy.
Gigi provides excellent movement at both the walk and the trot and has a nice wide base of support for patients who have difficulty with balance. She is very adjustable making it easy to increase or decrease her gaits as needed for each patient. She is a beautiful horse with a great long mane that all of the clients love touching.
Gigi enjoys her work. She is able to work with a wide variety of patients. She is not only tolerant of, but actually enjoys playing a variety of games and activities with the patients. She allows us to dress her up, which always gets the patients talking and engaged. Her short stature allows for us to combine hippotherapy with PROMPT therapy to help patients improve speech intelligibility, and her playful personality provides many opportunities for language activities and social interactions.
It is a privilege to work with Gigi each and every session. Click here to view Gigi's nomination video!
Thank you to all of the patients, side walkers, horse handlers and therapists who agreed to be in the video!
