Kate's passion for working with animals and individuals with communicative vulnerabilities found her. As the sister of an autistic young man who spoke his first sentence to the family's adopted golden retriever, Kate knows there is no greater joy than hearing those long awaited first words. Since she joined the team at Speech in Motion in 2017, she has been working together with families to educate, coach, and support them in reaching their goals for their children. Kate is passionate about the neurodiversity movement and loves advocating for her clients alongside their grown-ups. She believes that speech and language therapy shouldn't feel like work for anyone involved, and that language learning can exist within your daily routines and your child's favorite activities. Kate loves helping clients and families to find joy in interaction through shared experiences. She enjoys growing her breadth of knowledge in both continuing education courses as well as by learning from neurodiverse adults. Kate believes that regardless of any communication challenge, all children have strengths. She believes an approach that focuses on your child’s gifts rather than their areas of challenge will give them the skills to show anyone who crosses their path that they are not only capable, but exceptional!
Kate's continuing education has included training in hippotherapy, PROMPT, DIRFloortime, neurodiversity affirming therapy and The SOS Approach to Feeding. She received the ASHA Award for Continuing Education (ACE) in June 2020. She currently serves as a subject matter expert in Autism on Molloy College's Institutional Review Board.

Alexis was as an intern for the C.A.M.P program in the summer of 2019 and instantly fell in love with Speech in Motion’s approach to speech therapy. She worked as a group leader, and continues to appreciate the mentorship and experience she had with the amazing campers, therapists, and animals at Pal-O-Mine. Alexis started her career as a traveling speech-language pathologist treating a wide range of clients in the home, school, and clinic settings.
She is most passionate about Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), and spent her time in graduate school researching its use. Since then, Alexis has published and presented her findings at the American Speech-Language and Hearing national convention in Boston, MA. She believes that AAC is an incredible way to provide individuals with the ability to self-advocate and express themselves.
Alexis’ approach to therapy emphasizes neurodiversity affirming care that is client-led and play based. She believes in integrating speech and language goals seamlessly into play in order to ensure maximum generalization of skills. Alexis also emphasizes the importance of family involvement, and strives to provide families with useful and personalized strategies to facilitate communication across environments. Alexis’ continuing education has focused on provision of play-based therapy and Gestalt language processing.
Outside of Speech in Motion, Alexis works in special education with preschool students. When she is not providing speech and language therapy, Alexis enjoys making pottery and walking her dog, Loki.
